It’s been a week since Junsu left. Changmin hadn’t called him. Not once. He was partly worried and partly sad. He didn’t get a chance to say a proper goodbye. He was pushed onto the plane. Changmin had accused him of things before he left. Then he was happy for him. He didn’t understand.
Why was Changmin like that? It’s okay if you’re sad but why was you mad at me? Why did you accuse me of lying?
Determined to get an answer, Junsu picked up his phone and dialled the oh-so familiar number. He waited for his childhood friend to pick up. The phone rang three times. Three times and Changmin still didn’t pick up. Junsu didn’t bother to leave a message. He had already left over 200 messages in Changmin’s voice mail. His best friend would yell at him for spamming his inbox once he checked his voicemail. He didn’t care though. He just wanted to hear his childhood friend's voice. His best friend's voice. He needed to hear his voice to make sure he was okay. He needed to hear the voice that calmed his nerves. He needed Changmin to be there for him. He needed Changmin. He needed his Minnie.
"Minnie. Where are you? Why aren’t you picking up?"
Two weeks passed. Then three. Then it became a month. One month and no call or letter or email or text or any sign of life from Changmin. He wanted to take the next flight available and fly back to Tokyo and drive south, straight out into the country side to their hometown of Yokohama. He wanted to but he couldn’t afford to risk what he had now. What he worked so hard for. What he’s dreamed of doing for so long. He couldn't give it up.
One painful month of not hearing Changmin's laugh, not talking to him, not seeing him, not seeing his smile, being able to walk next to him, and do what friends do. It felt like he had been forgotten. Like Changmin had just forgot about him and moved on. Completely erasing his existent and any trace of him from his life.
Dialling Changmin’s number one more time, Junsu hoped that his best friend would pick up.
"Hello?" said a groggy voice on the other line.
Junsu was so happy that Changmin picked up that he almost didn’t realize that, that wasn’t Changmin. He knew how his best friend's voice sounded even if he was sick and tired. Changmin’s voice was whinier and a bit sharper when answering the phone still half asleep. This man wasn’t Changmin. The thought of whoever this person was to sound asleep could only meant that Changmin and him had sex. And that infuriated Junsu. How could his best friend do that to him?
"Who are you?" Junsu snapped at the other person on the line.
"YO! Don’t be snapping at me when you're the one who called me!" The other male snapped back, obviously now fully awake and angry.
"Who the hell are you?"
"I can ask you the same thing asshole!"
"Who are you and what are you doing with Changmin’s cell phone?" Junsu demanded to know.
"What am I doing on Minnie’s phone? Talking to an idiot!"
"Yah! How dare you insult me! You don’t even know me!"
"How do you know I don’t know you duck butt?"
"So you know me?" Junsu asked voice a little softer and curious.
"You said duck butt." Junsu mumbled voice very quiet.
"So you really have one? HAHAHAHAH THAT'S RICH." The other male busted out laughing.
"You know what! Screw you!"
"Nun uh ah, if anyone's doing the screwing around here, it's me."
"What did you do to Changmin?" Junsu asked voice venomous and dark.
"Aww, why? Is he yours? Your boy toy? Is he your lover? Do you love him?"
"He’s my friend and if you did anything to him I’ll kick-"
"You listen here duck butt. Touch my Minnie and you're dead."
Before Junsu could even retaliate, the line went dead.
"What the hell?! Shim Changmin when I get my hands on you, you got a lot of explaining to do!"
That is if I see you again. No. It’s if you'll see and talk to me again. Just where are you Minnie? Why are you avoiding me? What did I do wrong?
