Dedicated to: renichifreak because seriously you haven't read a Changsung fic before? And no I don't mean Changsung from 2PM. I mean Changmin (from DBSK not 2AM) and Yesung (not Sungmin from SuJu).
Walking down the halls, Kibum was looking for his "boyfriend". He was ready to smack the guy who dared to impersonate his boyfriend. He didn't have one. He wasn't even gay!
Walking down to the lobby he could hear the nurses whispering about his orientation and how he never dated anyone from the hospital. Or how he never showed any reaction to the female nurses and doctors flirting with him. Just because he didn't flirt back or ask them out didn't mean he's gay!
It's not their fault that they didn't know he was in a relationship, an engagement actually, because he never told anyone. If they knew then they knew. If they didn't then he wasn't going to waste time and tell them.
He would have gotten married about a month ago if she hadn't died in an accident. In a way, Changmin's accident helped him cope with everything. Their accidents happened on the same day. She just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Her accident was at the same place as Changmin's.
She was shot once. Right through her heart.
Changmin had taken on a lot more shots, 3 to be exact and bruises and cuts here and there. Taking care of Changmin kept him busy. He didn't have time to think about her. He didn't have time to even grieve over her between his other patients and Changmin.
He lost the love of his life. His fiancé. His wife to be. His childhood friend. His roommate and everything. They've been together since their last year of university. It's been around 4 years since they dated.
When the ambulances came, everything was hectic. Doctors and nurses were rushing the wounded patients into the ER room. It wasn't until the end of the day that Kibum looked over the records of that day's patients did he see the familiar name.
Wang Hee Sun. Without a doubt, he knew it was her. Looking beside her name, he saw what he dreaded to see. T.O.D. 12:03 AM. C.O.D. Bullet wound through her heart.
Walking heavy footsteps towards the autopsy room, Kibum didn't care about those around him. He didn't care if someone else was in the room. He needed to see her.
By her feet, Kibum froze.
Dr. Cho Kyuhyun is a Medical Examiner with the Seoul National Hospital of the Chief Medical Examiner (CME). He was going to ask Kibum what he thinks he's doing when he paused. He had never seen this side of Kibum. The impulsive and vulnerable side of Kim Kibum. Looking at Kibum and then at the dead female patient on the table, it didn't take him long to figure it out. This was his fiancé. They weren't the best of friends but he knew enough to know that Kibum would be getting married soon. He had never meet or seen his fiancé but now he'd seen her. Kyuhyun didn't say anything. He quickly finished examining the body before him and finished his notes. Pushing the body into the correct freezer, Kyuhyun took off his gloves and walked past Kibum. He knew that he needed some alone time. To look at her and let the reality of the other’s death sink in.
"You know where everything is."
After Kyuhyun had left, Kibum walked closer to her until he was standing beside her. Taking cold hands in his, he looked at her. From her hair to her eyes to her nose to her lips. Gently placing her hand back onto the table, Kibum moved to get the trolley.
Carefully, he washed her face, removed her light make up, and combed her hair. He then gave her a sponge bath and gently rewrapped the sheet over her.
He was crying the whole time. Moving her towards the freezer, he looked at her and then at the ring on her finger. Whispering the words "I love you" for the last time, he pushed her bed in and closed the door. Sliding to the floor, he cried over her, he cried over their love, he cried for what his life would be now without her.
The funeral was held later on. Family and friends were there. Life wasn't the same since she died.
Looking at his ring finger and not seeing the ring there, Kibum closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Looking around the lobby he was looking for the idiot that he was ready to punch.
It's been a while since he replayed what happened in his mind. He still thought of Hee Sun daily but now it's their happy memories together and not when he saw her in the autopsy room or during the funeral.
Kibum was practically fuming. How dare this person pretend something he's not and then call him in such a loving way. Whirling around, Kibum stared at the person who was waving frantically at him.
Kibum's jaw dropped. "Heechul?" He asked uncertain if the person in front of him really was Heechul. The last time he had seen Heechul he had long black with brown highlights when he stands directly under a light and wore a baby blue dress. The time before that was Heechul in a skirt and the time before that was Heechul in his wedding dress. Now, he was wearing crisp clean white shoes, loose grey slacks, white shirt with a high v-neck line with a simple black long sleeve jacket that had 2 buttons. He was wearing his signature necklace "Hee" and a one ring on his right index finger and one on his left ring finger. His hair was short but clean close cut.
"BUMMIE~♥" Heechul cheered, running to Kibum and pulling him into a tight hug.
Kibum just let himself be hugged. It's been a while since he'd seen or heard from Heechul. A sudden visit like this couldn't mean anything good. Well it can, considering its Heechul, since the guy tends to do things his way and when he wants to but being in his profession, being visited by someone you haven't seen in a long time couldn't mean something good.
Pulling away from the hug, Kibum looked at Heechul seriously. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Heechul rolled his eyes and slung his arm over Kibum's shoulder. Pulling Kibum in the direction of his office, Heechul smiled at the younger.
"You need to get out more. You're neglecting me lately and I don't like it one bit." Heechul whined.
Kibum rolled his eyes. "Why did you tell people that you're my boyfriend?"
"Because I am!" Heechul said proudly.
"No you're not. You know I'm not gay."
"Obviously you're not gay. You're not smiling right now."
Kibum remembered how annoying Heechul can be.
"I'm not a homosexual Heechul."
Heechul tsk at Kibum. Kibum raised an eyebrow with amusement. This was different then the everyday Heechul. The man doesn't tsk. He scoffs at you.
"Whatever. But I am your boyfriend." Heechul said the last word loud and clear for the nearby nurses to hear.
"A more correct term would be that you're my GUY friend not BOYfriend. You're not a little boy Heechul."
"Enough with the technical terms." Heechul glared. Kibum was ruining all his fun and he knew it.
Standing right outside of Kibum's office, Heechul continued to glare at Kibum. Kibum just ignored the glaring man behind him and unlocked his office.
Two female nurses came up to him and Heechul.
"Uh, Dr. Kim?"
"Yes?" Kibum asked, smiling at the two.
The two blushed and handed him the files in their hands.
"Here are the files that we were asked to give you."
"Thank you." Kibum flashed his killer lady's smile at them.
Heechul crossed his arms and tapped his foot against the tile floors. He didn't look like he was going to kill anyone. It was more of an "I'm-bored-so-hurry-up-and-leave-so-I-ca
"Are you two together?" The one who didn't hand Kibum the files asked Kibum, her finger gesturing to the two.
"Not the way you think." Kibum said kindly.
"So you're not dating him?" The one who did hand him the files asked.
"No. I'm heterosexual." Kibum smiled.
The two nurses giggled and bid the two good-bye, walking down the hall and gossiping like mad.
"Why'd you tell them that for?"
"Cause it's the truth."
"But it's not as fun." Heechul pouted.
Kibum rolled his eyes and pushed the door open to his office. Placing the files on his desk, he sat in his office chair and looked at Heechul expectantly. Heechul sighed and closed the door behind him and sat in one of the seats across from Kibum.
"So what's the big news?"
"It's not big but I want you to get married."
"WHAT?!" Kibum shouted at Heechul. If he had been drinking something at the moment, Heechul's face and his desk would be wet by now.
"You heard me."
"Are you insane?" Kibum shouted.
"Quit yelling. I can hear you perfectly fine. And no I'm not insane. I'm serious."
"You want me to get married? That is fucking insane."
"Then at least start dating again. Or have a social life. Or SOMETHING!"
"Why? I'm fine right now. I'm happy."
"Yeah." Kibum said softly looking at Heechul warmly.
Kibum really did look happy but in Heechul's eyes something was different. It was like Kibum was looking past him. Looking at someone else. Talking to someone else.
"Who are you imagining that you're talking to? Hee Sun?"
Heechul's voice cut through Kibum's daydream. Kibum shook his head to clear his mind.
"No, not her. She's beside me."
Heechul gave Kibum a "What-the-fuck-are-you-on" look.
"I'm not on drugs nor am I hallucinating from missing her so much. Yes, I do miss her and I think about her constantly but what I see and remember now are of what we shared together. The happy memories. The memories of her smiling and of her being happy. Not of her in the autopsy room anymore. I've moved on Heechul. I'm okay."
"Hmm." Heechul hummed not looking at Kibum but at the things on his desk.
"What?" Kibum asked, slightly annoyed. He thought his friend would be happy for him.
"Just wondering how'd you move on so fast."
"What's that suppose to mean?"
"No need to get all defensive. I was just wondering what happened to you in the past month?"
"Nothing. Life went on as usual. Working at the hospital, taking care of patients, life."
Kibum sighed. When Heechul says "interesting" after a "huh" it means he has a theory in mind. A theory that he will test out by all means. And by all means, it means that he's willing to do almost anything to get the evidence. Even if it means going into a lesbian club, getting into a chicken fight with the ugliest man on the face or the earth or giving a guy a lap dance. He's willing or will get someone to do it.
"What are you planning now Heechul?"
"Nothing but a little snooping around the hospital and following you during your rounds."
"How long do you plan on stalking me?"
"I'm not stalking you!"
"Do you plan on following me home?"
"See you are stalking me."
"No I'm not because I'm staying over. If I'm staying over at your place and going with you to work then I'm not a stalker."
"Fine. But seriously, how long are you going to do this for?"
"Until I get my answer."
"What if you don't find your answer? What are you going to do? Follow me for the rest of my life?"
"Puh-lease! I don't care about you that much! Only Hannie is worth that."
"Then go and follow him around. Not me."
"But he isn't the one who's my concern right now."
"So you don't care about him?"
"Don't be twisting my words Kim Kibum." Heechul said voice fierce and hard. No emotions evident.
"Good to know you're still you." Kibum said, unaffected by Heechul's change in tone.
"Kibum what happened to you? Really?"
"Nothing really. I just realized that Hee Sun's not around anymore and that just because she isn't living doesn't mean I shouldn't be either. So I pulled my act together and learned to cope to life without her always by my side, cheering me up and supporting me."
Heechul's words were cut off as a nurse barged into the room.
"I'm sorry to disturb you but Changmin shii is going into another attack."
Kibum bolted out of his seat and ran down the hall to Changmin's room with the nurse close behind. Heechul followed them, wondering what was going on. From what he could tell, there was another doctor and 4 other nurses, 3 male and 1 female going into the same room as Kibum.
Standing outside, Heechul wondered was the patient dying? He turned and saw someone staring at the door in fear and looking close to tears. Heechul didn't go up to the guy or anything. He looked a couple years younger than him.
The brunette was wearing faded dark murky navy blue jeans with a white sweater and a red scarf around his neck. He was sitting on one of the plastic chairs directly across from the door and hands playing with the hem of his shirt.
A couple minutes later, Kibum, the doctor and a stream of nurses came out of the room. They walked past the boy sitting on the chair and Kibum said good bye to them. Kibum then sat down next to him and they started to talk.
Even though Kibum's back was facing Heechul's, he could tell that something was different about Kibum. He had never seen Kibum sit down next to a patient's relative and talk to them like family, hug them and lend a shoulder for that person to cry on. Never had he seen Kibum do it before. The only other person who leaned on him and cried was Hee Sun.
"So this is the person who’s changed you Bummie. I hope you realize what's happening to you and act fast. Don't wait too long before he's taken from you like Death took Hee Sun."
Turning around, Heechul went back down the lobby and left the hospital. But of course not before writing a note and asking one of the nurses at the front desk to give it to Kibum later.
A/N: No idea what the note says. Heechul can see that Kibum cares for Eunhyuk deeply but does Kibum realize it himself?
