Summary: The deed's been done. They still are what they said they were years ago.
A/N: It's been so long since I've written anything. I feel like crap after writing this.
Their pinkies connected and they made the bond. They made the promise to always be the bestest of friends. It's been years and years after that promise they made when they were kids. They were toddlers than, barely out of preschool and now they're way into young adulthood, in their middle years of university.
Things haven't changed.
They're still the bestest of friends.
Though as of late, it has changed. The boundaries of friendship and the unknown has become blurred. The friendship is still there but the feelings of something more and something less has come up more than once.
"Do you think I should accept and go study in France?"
Changmin looked at his best friend in front of him. He didn't know what he should feel. He felt happy that Kibum got the scholarship but also a little bit of jealous that he didn't get the chance instead.
"Well, do you want to go?" Changmin asked back.
"I do and I don't." Kibum sighed. He paced back and forth in their apartment. They had moved into this place during their freshman year. Changmin was sitting on the couch while he was pacing in front of the tv.
"Why don't you want to go?"
"I dunno. Something just feels unfinished if I go but at the same time, it's like a chance for me to escape and not think about it anymore."
"Okay..." Changmin felt like those words had a double meaning. He didn't want to go into details on that answer.
"Never mind. You wouldn't get it."
"No, I wouldn't."
Kibum stopped his pacing in the room and looked at Changmin. Something was off about Changmin today. His answers were too vague and they had no points to them. That wasn't like Changmin. "Hmm," he hummed.
"When are you leaving if you go?"
"Well you better decide soon then." Changmin offered a smile and turned on the tv. Kibum moved out of the way and didn't say anything. He nodded his head in acknowledgement to Changmin's words and made his way to the terrace. He closed the screen behind him and lay on the white couch outside.
Seems like he doesn't care. Though he shouldn't since we're not lovers or anything but we are best friends. He could at least say something meaningful.
Leaning his head back into the armrest, Kibum covered his eyes with his arms and let his mind drift. He really needs a good nap right about now.
It's been 3 days and it's been the 3 most painful days of their lives. Kibum's flight is scheduled in an hour and Changmin was nowhere in sight.
It probably is too much wishful thinking to think he was going to come. I guess whatever our relationship was morphing into will have to stop and go back to its original state. We're really keeping the promise of being the bestest of friends.
Looking at his ticket in hand, he felt a little saddened by that fact. He had thought that maybe he was starting to feel something more than just friendship for Changmin but now he'll never know. Going away to France to continue his studies may just be the escape he needs to forget about his tiny crush on his best friend.
There was still a little under an hour left but Kibum had made up his mind. If he's to forget about his affections towards Changmin, he has to leave now. He couldn't sit in the waiting area. He has to be inside the terminal and sit on the plane for the next 45 minutes or so before it fills with passengers and takes off. That way he can't turn back and wait like a fool and board onto the plane with pain in his heart.
Getting up, Kibum made his way through the check ins, through the terminal and sat in his assigned seat on the plane.
Looking one last time out the window, he lightly traced the words Shim Changmin on it.
Goodbye Korea. Bonjour Paris.
Sighing, he pulled down the blinds and pulled on his headphones. It's going to be long and painful plane ride to forget his crush on Changmin.
