Summary: The deed's been done. They still are what they said they were years ago.
Previous: Part 1
A/N: So here it is. The sequel that everyone's asking for. The sequels more of Changmin's POV on the whole ordeal. If and only if I get an idea of some way to get them together than I'll write a real sequel of the couple. Enjoy~
Their pinkies connected and they made the bond. They made the promise to always be the bestest of friends. It's been years and years after that promise they made when they were kids. They were toddlers than, barely out of preschool and now they're way into young adulthood, in their middle years of university.
Things haven't changed.
They're still the bestest of friends.
Though as of late, it has changed. The boundaries of friendship and the unknown has become blurred. The friendship is still there but the feelings of something more and something less has come up more than once.
"Do you think I should accept and go study in France?"
Changmin looked at his best friend in front of him. He didn't know what he should feel. He felt happy that Kibum got the scholarship but also a little bit of jealous that he didn't get the chance instead.
"Well, do you want to go?" Changmin asked back.
"I do and I don't." Kibum sighed. He paced back and forth in their apartment. They had moved into this place during their freshman year. Changmin was sitting on the couch while he was pacing in front of the TV.
"Why don't you want to go?"
"I dunno. Something just feels unfinished if I go but at the same time, it's like a chance for me to escape and not think about it anymore."
"Okay..." Changmin felt like those words had a double meaning. He didn't want to go into details on that answer.
"Never mind. You wouldn't get it."
"No, I wouldn't."
Kibum stopped his pacing in the room and looked at Changmin. They way he was looking at him like he was looking for answers. Answers that Changmin wasn't willing to give at least not without a fight. Instead he cut the look short and continued on with their conversation.
"When are you leaving if you go?"
"Three days." Kibum said.
"Well you better decide soon then." Changmin offered a smile and turned on the TV. Kibum moved out of the way and didn't say anything. Changmin can see from the reflection off the television screen that Kibum nodded his head in acknowledgement and went out onto the terrace, sitting on the couch.
He focuses his attention on the TV and not on Kibum. It's just not right to be thinking of someone who will never be yours. The heartache is enough, thinking only makes it worse.
It's been 3 days and it's been the 3 most painful days of their lives. Kibum's flight is scheduled in an hour and Changmin is determined to not show up.
He could be a much better best friend if he went and said goodbye. He could be a much better best friend and go and tell Kibum to stay. He could be a much better best friend if he actually give his input to Kibum but it's not his decision to make. If Kibum wants to go, then who is he to stop him from accomplishing his dreams? They're best friends. Nothing more. Kibum's hidden words and double meanings do mean something. Will he choose to live in denial? Yes.
Yes because it's not possible for them to be together. Love can conquer anything so they say but the road to happiness is nothing but pain. He already knows for a fact that their parents and families would not approve. Their chosen professions would be at risk and they'd be at risk to say hurtful things in the heat of the moment and actually mean it.
Changmin is not stupid. He may not be the smartest kid in school but he knows what he's doing. He's done his research. Their families would definitely not approve. Kibum's parents are dead set on Kibum marrying a girl and living on the Kim bloodline. His parents might accept him not marrying a girl but the groom cannot be Kibum. He's tempted to ask why but he kinda already knows the reasoning behind it.
Kibum is the perfect child. He's the perfect boyfriend. He's the perfect husband. Of course, he'll be the perfect son-in-law. They want him as a son-in-law. Just married to one of his sisters. They've known each other since they were little. They're practically family anyways. His parents have seen Kibum grow up and they trust him with their daughters.
In a way he resents his parents because what are they trying to say? That they don't trust Kibum with him? Is he the one at fault here?
He doesn't know and he's not willing to completely destroy what he was with Kibum after knowing the answer.
Right now would be the time, Kibum's plane takes off. Maybe when he's drunk he'll call Kibum up and confess and they'll fight for it. Regardless of knowing what they have to fight through, they'll take on the challenge as long as they can be together. Until then, it's better this way.
He stays here in Korea and Kibum leaves for Paris.
He'll meet a sweet beautiful girl that he'll bring home and they'll get married. They'll live happily ever after and he'll be the best man at the wedding. Or by then, they both forget this love and stay out of each other’s lives.
